About The Scientific Vegan

My name is Brianna and I’ve been vegan for 14 years. I completed my science degree, majoring in zoology, in 2014. While ethical considerations continue to be a key driver in my veganism, it became apparent to me whilst studying conservation how much a serious change is needed. I have always wanted to contribute to the vegan movement but I wasn’t sure how. I then tacked on a Master of Science Communication to pursue this passion, and delay entering the slog of full-time employment just that little bit longer.

I hope to make an argument for veganism that goes beyond morality, which is often argued by non-vegans to be subjective, and to wade through peer-reviewed papers to offer science-based facts that cannot be disputed. I was partly inspired by info-graphics and memes shared by fellow vegans that were not scientifically sound, either statistically or nutritionally. I think that these have the potential to harm the vegan movement, as they can easily be disputed. This is dangerous and I believe the argument for veganism is so strong, we don’t need to rely on overly dramatic or falsified information to encourage a global shift in our diets and lifestyles.
